The Bankrupt DJs came to being in late 2001, Kim Reply had just left the Bankrupt and things had become kind of boring. One night in the Grosvenor beer garden BenDog had the idea of playing sets between bands at the Pit Theatre.

The first show we played was the Dead Ends launch at the pit in December 2001. Nobody had played a punk or ska DJ set at a show before, so we had no idea how well it was going to go down. Fortunately the crowd seemed to enjoy it, and we were asked to play more shows.

As always our last show was plagued with technical difficulties, one of our CD players was refusing to play CDs, and we were in a lot of trouble. Fortunately we were able to convince the sound guy to lend us his CD player, and the show could go on.

The Bankrupt DJs also recorded a Mix CD in late 2001, it was intended for sale in January 2002, but unfortunately it never got out.

The Bankrupt DJs called it a day after much infighting in the scene got in the way of their work and like many things the fun that was once there vanished.
